Just in on UPI Report: Some e-cigarettes deliver carcinogens, while I cannot comment at this point on the suggestion that tank systems may deliver more carcinogens (the idea does not seem entirely improbable) what drew my attention was a reference to an abstract and study findings that though written here as part of the lab […]
The obvious point is that the safety of products needs to be judged on their intended use (common sense has to enter into it). Drinking nicotine is not a good thing but it is also no argument against e-cigarettes. Source article.
Recently in Macleans magazine there was a decent op ed decrying Peter Mackay’s promotion of instituting random vehicle stops on the basis of reducing drunk driving. My initial negative reaction to the story was simply because I don’t like the idea of expanded police powers and particularly not when it comes to being able to search […]
In Why doctors are raising the alarm over e-cigarettes published yesterday in the Globe and Mail tobacco control extremism rules the day. “Many physicians, however, do not welcome the trend. A Canadian Medical Journal editorial published this week warned that e-cigarettes may be a “slippery slope to tobacco addiction.” A recent study in the journal The […]
Once again we see the headline E-cigarettes could hook a new generation on nicotine, experts warn. This is a reprint of the Canadian Press article I previously wrote about. I need to also iterate a previous point – addiction is a concern if the results impact health negatively. If the article had been titled …..hook […]

“We must not be so easily lured by the illusion of a safe substitute for cigarettes that we yield precious ground in the war against tobacco.” So writes Michael Stanbrook, Deputy Editor, Scientific for the Canadian Medical Journal in a recent oped. You get the feeling from these tireless campaigners for an unending battle that […]
Earlier this week the National Association of Attorneys General submitted a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg pressing for immediate imposition of regulations. Whereas there is little argument against some regulation, the authors come across as little more than Chicken Littles fearing the falling sky. Or is it just in this age that they believe […]
There have been a flurry of media with headlines such as E-cigs don’t help people butt out: Study and Heart Institute Review Confirms No Evidence of E-cigarettes Effectiveness for Cessation. Though the message seems clear and direct there is no evidence presented – no information given so that we might understand the basis for the statement, As presented […]
I have noticed that within the last few years very few misleading articles about e-cigarettes have managed to avoid an overwhelming number of critical comments (for example this latest from National Geographic). In most cases it seems that the readers have a more in depth knowledge of the topic than the writer does. So where […]
